On into Austria

It must be said that the approach to Passau is distinctly more romantic and scenic when done by a river cruise boat. By bicycle from the west you engage it’s industrial area first and finally enter the older part of the city underneath a motorway flyover. Then as you emerge from under the concrete, you are confronted by many River boats disembarking their post breakfast passengers who were dutifully following their tour guides oblivious to bicycles, cars or other people. In all I counted over 15 boats. Some, like the Crystal ones, were very posh and demanded that you stare into the cabins with envy at their exclusivity.

One benefit of the tour groups is that I didn’t need to read up about the sights, churches or the last great flood. I just evesdropped from one group to another.

Then it was onwards into Austria. Who could complain when you have bike paths like this?
